The mission of HCR is succinctly stated in its motto: “Keeping Huntley Informed and Connected”. In support of HCR’s mission, no other communications medium that serves the Huntley community can provide community alerts, announcements, and information of general interest to all segments of the Huntley area community in as timely a manner as HCR can. HCR has the unique capability of communicating and interacting with its Huntley area listening community several hours each day of the year. This form of communication inherently brings the community together with shared knowledge and insight.
Huntley Community Radio, Ltd (HCR) is a community-oriented, volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) Illinois not-for-profit corporation. HCR is dedicated to providing timely news, alerts, community related announcements and regularly scheduled programming that appeals to a diversity of community interests.
HCR regular daytime programming consists of local news, sports, and weather; education; health; recreation; civic activities and events; and business development and interests. In addition to in-studio programs, remote broadcasts are a frequent part of HCR’s programming schedule. These include live and recorded coverage of events occurring within Huntley, including student concerts, sporting events, village meetings, and special events that may happen periodically and on a one-time basis. HCR broadcasts 7 days per week, 24 hour per day.
HCR began its operation as an internet radio station in late Summer 2012. With approval from the FCC in October of 2014, HCR expanded its operation as WHRU-LP, broadcasting on 101.5 FM as a low-power station to the Huntley Community. Huntley Community Radio embraces Huntley’s sense of community in its motto: “The Friendly Village with Country Charm”.
