As such, HCR, unlike commercial radio, is not allowed to raise funds from advertising.\u00a0 All operating and capital funds are acquired through donations and grants.<\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-title\"><a href=\"#\">What is the purpose of HCR?<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-inner\">HCR&#8217;s mission is succinctly stated in its motto: \u201cKeeping Huntley Informed and Connected\u201d.\u00a0 In support of HCR&#8217;s mission, no other communications medium that serves the Huntley community can provide community alerts, announcements, and information of general interest to all segments of the Huntley area community in as timely a manner as HCR can.\u00a0 HCR has the unique capability of communicating and interacting with its Huntley area listening community several hours each day of the year.\u00a0 This form of communication and the station&#8217;s intent to interact with its listeners via call-ins during on-air broadcasts inherently brings the community together with shared knowledge and insight.<\/p>\n<p>Community organizations are able to better inform and connect with all Huntley residents and those who directly serve our community.\u00a0 These community organizations include the Huntley village government; the police and fire departments; School District 158; the Library and Park Districts; the numerous community service organizations; and businesses represented by the Huntley Chamber of Commerce. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-title\"><a href=\"#\">I\u2019ve heard that HCR is run by and for Sun City residents.  Is that true?<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-inner\">When the concept for this low-power FM station was initially conceived, this statement was true; however, it\u2019s untrue today.\u00a0 The mission, scope, operation, and community involvement now focuses on the needs and interests of the entire Huntley community. \u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-title\"><a href=\"#\">How far will HCR\u2019s broadcast signal reach?<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-inner\">By law, as a low-power FM station, HCR is restricted to broadcasting at a signal strength no greater than 100 watts from a height no greater than 100 feet above\u00a0 ground level.\u00a0 This in effect limits its broadcast distance to approximately 5 radial miles from HCR&#8217;s transmitting antenna atop the Huntley water tower at Haligus and Kruetzer Roads without a perceived weakness in its signal.\u00a0 All of Huntley and portions of Lake In The Hills, Gilberts, Lakewood, Algonquin, and Hampshire are covered within this distance.<br \/>\nOf course, all HCR programs will be simulcasts over the internet, so listeners who have internet access anywhere in the world will be able to listen to HCR.<\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-title\"><a href=\"#\">When did HCR inaugurate its broadcasts?<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-inner\">HCR officially began its operation as an internet radio station on September 28, 2012.\u00a0 With approval of a construction permit from the FCC in the fall of 2014, HCR expanded its operation to broadcast as a Low-Power FM station to the Huntley community.<\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-title\"><a href=\"#\">Where does HCR get its funding?  Are our tax dollars subsidizing the station?<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-inner\">HCR receives it funding through small and large donations and through grants.\u00a0 All donations are fully tax deductible.\u00a0 Individual donations in excess of $100 receive recognition on the HCR website, the HCR Facebook page, and in HCR promotional materials.\u00a0 Donations of $500 or more receive the above recognition in addition to increasing levels of on-air acknowledgements and sponsorship recognition based upon the amount of financial support given.\u00a0 HCR is forbidden by its charter to accept any tax dollars to subside any of its financial obligations. \u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-title\"><a href=\"#\">Where is HCR located?<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-inner\">HCR&#8217;s studios and office space are in the Deicke Park Building located in Deicke Park at 11419 S. Route 47, Huntley, IL.\u00a0 This space is made available through a licensing agreement between HCR and the Huntley Park District to house the HCR studios, a management office, office cubicles for various production activity including program editing, a reception area, and storage space.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"The Al Litwin Studios\" href=\"https:\/\/huntleyradio.com\/hcr\/studios\/\">Click here to learn more about the Al Litwin Studios<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-title\"><a href=\"#\">Who owns and operates the station?<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-inner\">HCR is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation.\u00a0 No &#8220;individual&#8221; owns the station.\u00a0 It is properly owned by the corporation, Huntley Community Radio, Ltd NFP; however, as a not-for-profit corporation, HCR has a <a title=\"Leadership\" href=\"https:\/\/huntleyradio.com\/hcr\/officers\/\">Board of Directors<\/a> who are responsible for making all strategic decisions affecting the station.\u00a0 In addition, HCR has a <a title=\"Board of Advisors\" href=\"https:\/\/huntleyradio.com\/hcr\/advisors\/\">Board of Advisors<\/a> who have been selected for their expertise in advising the Board of Directors in making informed decisions that affect the community.<br \/>\nEqually important are the volunteers without whom HCR could not exist.\u00a0 Except for the programming manager who is responsible for scheduling all programming, the station is run entirely by volunteers.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-title\"><a href=\"#\">How many employees and volunteers does HCR have?<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-inner\">HCR has no employees, but does contract an experienced programming manager who is responsible for scheduling all programming, including programs, promotional messages, sponsorship acknowledgements, and public service announcements..<br \/>\nAs of January, 2014, approximately, HCR has approximately 60 volunteers performing duties that include: producing and hosting programs, announcing, program editing, technical support, accounting, marketing, PR, and fundraising. \u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-title\"><a href=\"#\">Do HCR volunteers need to have prior broadcasting experience?<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-inner\">No. All volunteers receive formal and on-hands training.\u00a0 Of course, prior broadcast experience reduces a volunteer\u2019s learning curve.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-title\"><a href=\"#\">If I volunteer, how flexible is HCR in assigning work hours?<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-inner\">As a volunteer, the time spent with HCR should be fun, and that includes the right to volunteer during times that best meet a volunteer\u2019s schedule and lifestyle.\u00a0 However, some positions require greater degrees of time specific commitments; e.g. hosting or being involved in the production of a regularly scheduled program.<\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-title\"><a href=\"#\">Is it true that students within the greater Huntley area are being trained and mentored in radio broadcasting by HCR?<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-inner\">True. McHenry Community College (MCC) has established a Radio Internship Program with HCR.\u00a0 This program is supervised jointly by faculty members in the MCC Independent Studies in Humanities Department and HCR.\u00a0 Each semester, up to six interns are assigned to the station where they are trained in all aspects of radio production, including sound engineering, program editing, program development and hosting, and remote broadcasting.\u00a0 These interns comprise a mix of MCC students who have served as interns at HCR previously, and students who are new to the program.<br \/>\nIn addition, HCR has established a collaborative partnership with the Career and Technical Education Department of Huntley High School (HHS) to provide a similar training experience as offered to the MCC interns.\u00a0 As of January, 2014, the HCR Director of Youth Programming and Development is guiding several HHS Radio Broadcasting Club students in the development of their own HCR radio show. \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-title\"><a href=\"#\">How do I donate to the station?<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-inner\">Send a check payable to \u201cHuntley Community Radio Ltd.
